Leading from Wisdom

In recent years, philosophical language has returned to modern culture in words such as "purpose," "meaning," "value," "goodness," and "fulfillment." Even more suggestively, Silicon Valley has been flirting of late with the idea of Chief Philosophy Officers.

While, for some time, leaders of all kinds have been schooled in how to be effective (in terms of their day-to-day performance) and ethical (in terms of their decisions and actions), what has yet to be explored at any considerable length is the importance of wisdom. In this talk, I explain what wisdom is and why it matters, and I conclude by urging us not just to live from but also to lead from wisdom
